Welcome to Room 7/8's blog. We have 19 wonderful year 1 children in our classroom. We think we are super lucky because we have two teachers! Mrs Forsyth teaches us in the morning and in the afternoons Mrs Fairweather teaches us while Mrs Forsyth takes Reading Recovery. Our lovely teacher aides Jody and Ameena help us too! Thanks for visiting our blog...we would love you to leave a comment.

iPad Fundraiser Update
Thank you to those parents who have bought some class books. We have three different books you can order. We are super excited watching our funds going up...we are getting closer to another iPad! Yahoo...
Making shortbread
Clarice's Mum and Teresa helped us make shortbread to take to "The O'Conor Home" to give to the elderly as a gift. We are also going to sing christmas carols while we are visiting them.
iPad Fundraiser
Watch this space!
We are selling an end of year book showing some of the fun things we have been doing in Room 7 in 2013. Keep an eye on our "Fundraising Thermometer" to see how close to our target we are. Monday, 9 December 2013

Creepy Crawly Creature
Tennille's Dad found this creepy crawly creature and brought it along to show us.
Do you know what it is called?

Exploding Canisters!
We did a fun science experiment on exploding canisters. There were three items we needed to do this, vinegar, baking soda and a film canister.
First we added some vinegar to an empty film canister, we filled it half way. Then we added about half a teaspoon of baking soda and put the lid on really quickly.

Along came Emma's mum who is also an expert at exploding things! Look what happened!
Miss Read wasn't as fast as Emma's Mum at getting out of the way, and she got sprayed with vinegar...oops!

MAD ON iPADS
We adore our iPads! Room 7 kids seem to rush to school each morning hoping to get some time on the iPads before school starts. We are able to use the iPads to learn in many curriculum areas. Even at the end of the day the children are still eager and energised for iPad time.
Change
This term our topic is 'Change'. We have been doing different science experiments and discussing the changes that we have observed.
Now we have some tadpoles in the classroom and it is fun to see them change.
Today we wrote about our tadpoles.
Olivia wrote...
Our classroom has three tadpoles. They have back legs. Soon they will get their front legs. Then their tails will disappear.
Rachael wrote...
Our tadpoles have back legs. Soon they will change into frogs. They might hop all over the room!
Jake wrote...
Our three tadpoles have back legs. Later they will be frogs. I think that they grow into frogs. They are eating weeds. They will grow too big next year and we will have to fill our classroom up with water.
Tennille wrote...
My classroom has some tadpoles. They have cute back legs. Soon they will have front legs.

Our classroom tadpoles are growing their back legs. There are three tadpoles in the tank.
Emma wrote...
Our classroom has tadpoles, there are three in their cage. Their back legs are coming out. After that they will grow front legs and their tails will shorten and they will turn into frogs.
Tennille brought along her book about 'Frogs". We learnt lots of interesting facts.
Did you know...
Tadpoles are in their eggs for 9 days before they hatch out?
We thought it was amazing to learn that it took a tadpole a whole day to wriggle free from their egg.
It is also clever that a tadpole grows back legs, then front legs and then their tail disappears and they have changed into a frog.
We discovered where our lungs were in our body and were surprised to learn that tadpoles changed from breathing through their gills to breathing through their lungs.
Thanks Tennille for bringing along your book to share with us.

Santa is coming soon...
Six more weeks until Christmas!
This morning, we wrote letters to Santa. We asked him a question and then hinted at what we would like for Christmas. Here we are, trying our best...

Birthday Girls
Two lovely girls in Room 7 celebrated their 6th birthday today.
A Very Happy Birthday to Neve & Bella.
CHANGE
This term our topic is 'Change'.
We did a science experiment and observed some changes.
First we poured some milk into a dish and added some drops of different food colouring (we used blue, green, red and yellow).
Next we dipped a cotton bud into dish washing liquid.
Then we put the cotton bud into the milk and watched the changes
that happened.
