Welcome to Room 7/8's blog. We have 19 wonderful year 1 children in our classroom. We think we are super lucky because we have two teachers! Mrs Forsyth teaches us in the morning and in the afternoons Mrs Fairweather teaches us while Mrs Forsyth takes Reading Recovery. Our lovely teacher aides Jody and Ameena help us too! Thanks for visiting our blog...we would love you to leave a comment.

Describing our tree
We are learning to add describing words to our writing to make it interesting. Last week we looked at the tree outside our classroom and shared our ideas about what we thought were good describing words (adjectives) to describe the tree.
Here is some of our writing...
ROSA wrote " Outside there is a very big tree. It has long skinny arms."
BEN wrote " The tree is really brown. It has no leaves."
JAXON wrote, " Outside our classroom there is a big tree. It is deciduous."
LENKA wrote, " It is a gigantic tree. It has been growing for years."
ISLA wrote, " The tree is very old and it has a big trunk. It is very bare because it has no leaves."
BILLY wrote, "It is an enormous tree. It has moss on the trunk."
MILLIE wrote, "We saw a gigantic tree at our school. It has no leaves and it has moss on the trunk."
ARI wrote, " Outside our classroom there is a massive tree and it looks like a giant."
OLIVIA wrote, " Outside there is a gigantic tree. It has moss on it. The branches are thin and wrinkly and they are brown. The trunk is wide. The tree has no leaves because it is deciduous."
SAMARA wrote, " Outside our classroom there is a big tree. It has some pointy sticks."
MATA wrote, "The tree is brown and the leaves have fallen off."
EMMA wrote, "Outside there is an enormous tree. There is moss on the tree and also there are no leaves because it is deciduous."
TAINE wrote: "We have an old tree outside our class."
LAYTON wrote: 'The tree has no leaves and it is brown. It is gigantic."
NEVE wrote: "Outside there is a gigantic tree. It is brown and it has moss on it. It is shaped like an umbrella. I liked it."
Koru Art
We have been practising our haka and waiatas for the school production. We learnt that korus mean new life, and new beginnings and Mrs Shepherd brought along her i-pad and showed us how a new emerging fern looks just like a koru. Look at the korus we drew!
Room 7 Racy Rappers!
On Friday room 7 kids got dressed into their rapping gear and performed a rap(to learn doubles)at assembly. We need to invent another word for enthusiasm and excitement to describe how the children felt! There was bling galore, side ways caps and gangster moves :-) Well done room 7 (and Miss T) for your awesome entertainment.
