Welcome to Room 7/8's blog. We have 19 wonderful year 1 children in our classroom. We think we are super lucky because we have two teachers! Mrs Forsyth teaches us in the morning and in the afternoons Mrs Fairweather teaches us while Mrs Forsyth takes Reading Recovery. Our lovely teacher aides Jody and Ameena help us too! Thanks for visiting our blog...we would love you to leave a comment.

Measuring Fun
We have been learning about weight (mass) and volume/capacity over the last at two weeks in maths. We have looked at heavier and lighter, comparing weights, using fulcrum scales and using a standard weight to weigh everyday objects. Today Mrs Fairweather's groups were looking at capacity - estimating and checking which vessel holds the most water and comparing/ranking from vessels which hold to least to the most.
The Day the Ambulance Came to School
Last Friday we had a mufti day at school to raise money for St John's. We are also really privileged to have the ambulance come to school in the afternoon. We all got to have a look inside. Kaleb and Mrs Fairweather got to have a turn at being lifted into the ambulance in their special chair. We also got balloons and lollipops!! Thanks Leanne for bringing the ambulance to school!
Special Principal's Awards
Congratulations to these children who have received Special Principal's Awards. These are given out when a child has received 5, 10, 15 and 25 Classroom Certificates (or other school awards). Remember to save these up and take them into Taryn when you have reached one of the milestones. When you get to 25 you get $10 to spend on the next book club!!

#thefairestofthemall
On Friday the whole school was entertained by the Playhouse theatre group. They put on a wonderfully entertaining show that had us all in fits of laughter and watching intently. It also had a serious message about how we need to live our lives in the real world instead of being glued to our devices, living in the virtual world.
Here are some pics from the show...

Superstars Cricket
Your child may have brought home a notice and registration form for superstars cricket. This is for children in years 1-4 and is on Tuesdays for the next 6 weeks. There is no cost for this, just take your child and their registration form along on Tuesday.
Bulłer Cricket
We were really lucky on Friday at assembly because we had some of the Buller Cricket team and their manager bring the Hawke Cup to show our school. The Buller team won this from Canterbury Country in their very first Hawke Cup challenge last weekend. Our very own Mr Adams plays in this team. This weekend from the 12th-14th February the Buller team will be playing their first defence against North Otago at Craddock Park - it would be great to have lots of local support. We might even head along to watch for a wee bit on Friday!!
Our Writing
Come and check out our awesome stories about things that we did in the holidays. This is where our published writing will be displayed - keep checking it out as it will change regularly.

More measuring...
We are learning why we need to use standard units for measuring- Morris was 6 1/2 of Mrs Fairweather's hands tall and 11 of Emma's hands tall. The length of his arm was 22 multi link cubes.
